While two people contemplate the beauty of Bernini’s Triton Fountain, little boys play at its feet. In the background behind the fountain, “il Portonaccio” is still present, i.e. a large arch which served as the entrance to Palazzo Barberini and which gave access to the Barberini Theater (today a cinema) built by Bernini as a court theater in 1634. The arch will be later demolished for the opening of Via Barberini, formerly Via Regina Elena.
